Sgt. Grit Community
Sgt Grit is a place where Marines can come and meet other Marines, share tattoos and stories, keep up with Marine Corps news, or shop for USMC gear.
This is the Punisher.
Love the car! Am presently working on my 2006 vette, making it more marine corps.
I saved all but about $500.00 off my pay those 13 months in Nam, and couldn’t afford a 7 year old Cadillac I had my eye on….when I came stateside. That Corvette would be just a dream.
I did the same and was able to buy a ’69 Jeep CJ-5 when I got back in April ’69. The kicker was I had to buy a top, passenger seat and wheels and tires.
Sgt. Manley, I like you saved my money while in Nam….could not afford 1966 Chevy Malibu…. Love the vet…. Semper Fi…. L/Cpl Young 64/69
OMG! One of my favorite car’s with Devil Dog detail = AMAZING!! Love, Love, Love this Vette!! Semper Fi Marine, Thank you!
I love my ride. It is fast n pretty. She is spring steel sex appeal creepy crawling war machine. ? When I came back from overseas my wife had taken up with at least one of my fraternity brothers letting him eat my food n drive my car. Got rid of both. Ever time I slide into my ride I think of what a great choice I made dumping the past. ?
I served in the USMC 01/05/1958 -1965. I have owned many Vettes and still own and drive the same. Semper Fi
My ride is a 1969 Chevy C-10 short bed, step side. It’s a work in progress. It’s got a 700 R4 tranny, new suspension, dropped 3″ iin front and 2″in rear. I put in a new 350 HO, 330 hp chevy motor last October. Next, will be, moving the gas tank back under the bed, wood bed floor, new paint. Hopefully it will appear one day in the newsletter. The plates say “C GOIN”. Semper Fi
Very nice.. I currently have a 2014 Z51 I am working on as well.. ( and a 2006 C6 convertible that my wife drives). You know they are never really finished. I was also in at the same time. June 1971 to May 1975. Semper Fi.
Gotta love a car (or truck) that has proper 782 equipment in the trunk!
I seem to recall that we servicemen and women were able to purchase a brand new car/truck from one of the 4 U.S. automakers at the time, inside the Freedom Hill Exchange before it was destroyed by the 1969 ammo dump explosion. Notice I said one of the 4 U.S. automakers – Ford, GMC, Chrysler and American Motors (AMC). Put down your deposit and your rocket ship would shipped to your hometown and the overall price was dirt cheap!! Ahh, what memories, GTO’s, Mustangs, Malibu’s, Vettes, Javelin’s etc. Semper Fi to all, Gary Ross, F 2/26, Khe Sanh and other fun spots too numerous to mention.
when I got back to the “world” all I could afford was a 1959 MGA
Nice ride! I was going to buy a Vette when I came home from Nam, but the insurance was the same as I was making as an E-4. Instead bought a new Olds Cutlass Supreme. It was waiting for me when I got home in May of 69. John Mason Echo 2/27 and Delta 1/9
