Will Rogers’ Wisdom

Will Rogers, who died in a  1935 plane crash, was one of the greatest  political sages this country has ever  known.

Enjoy the following:

1. Never slap a man who’s chewing  tobacco.

2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot  day.

3. There are two theories to arguing  with a woman.  Neither works.

4. Never miss a good chance to shut  up.

5. Always drink upstream from the  herd.

6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

7. The quickest way to double your money  is to fold it and put it back into your  pocket.

8. There are three kinds of  men: -The ones that learn by  reading. -The few who learn by  observation. -The rest of them have to pee on the  electric fence and find out for  themselves.

9. Good judgment comes from experience,  and a lot of that comes from bad  judgment.

10. If you’re riding’ ahead of the herd,  take a look back every now and  then To make sure it’s still  there.

11. Lettin’  the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier’n  puttin’ it back.

12. After  eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so  good he started roaring. He  kept it up until a hunter came along and shot  him. The  moral: When  you’re full of bull, keep your mouth  shut.

ABOUT  GROWING OLDER…

First  ~Eventually  you will reach a point when you stop  lying About  your age and start bragging about  it.

Second  ~ The older  we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in  line for.

Third  ~ Some  people try to turn back their  odometers. Not  me; I want people to know ‘why’ I look this  way. I’ve  traveled a long way, and some of the roads  weren’t paved.

Fourth  ~ When you  are dissatisfied and would like to go back to  youth,Think  of Algebra.

Fifth  ~ You know  you are getting old when everything either dries  up or leaks.

Sixth  ~ I don’t  know how I got over the hill without getting to  the top.

Seventh  ~ One of the  many things no one tells you about  aging Is  that it’s such a nice change from being  young.

Eighth  ~ One must  wait until evening to see how splendid the day  has been.

Ninth  ~ Being  young is beautiful, but being old is  comfortable.

Tenth  ~ Long ago,  when men cursed and beat the ground with  sticks, it was  called witchcraft. Today  it’s called golf.

And, finally  ~ If you  don’t learn to laugh at  trouble, You  won’t have anything to laugh at when you’re  old.

    1. Hi Harry I now have cancer of the right kidney. It moved up from the bladder. Once this is behind me we have to get together for that lunch. Last summer was one night mare after another. They say this is all due to Agent Orange. I am now 60% and my rep said I should get 100% now. Wish it was 0 and I was back to my old self.

      1. Really sorry to hear that. Agent Orange and the Bad Water at “Swamp Lagoon”. When will it end? I don’t think it will ever end when we know that some of our kids are carrying it around. What’s next! You should have already been 100% P&T. My buddy Dick was granted 100 P&T as soon as bladder cancer was approved for exposure to the toxic water at”Lagoon” Any way, hang in there SGT. I don’t know what else to say. It really sucks! Harry

        1. Thanks Harry. At least I am still here. Could be worse. Glad to hear your friend got 100%. Have meeting with doctors on the 17th and will go from there. Tell you all about it when I see you this summer.

        2. As a kid I lived at Camp Lejeune from 1956-1965 with exception of a year that my father was in Okinawa. He served from 1942-1972 & retired Mgy/sgt. Both of my parents passed away before age 70 of kidney failure. I had kidney failure also, but after 2&1/2 yrs on dialysis I had a transplant. I contacted the VA & received a letter saying that I qualify for some compensation for the BAD WATER. The problem is ,I don’t know how to get all the record’s. My parent’s died in the 1990’s. Semper-Fi Harry

          1. Hi Chris, I don’t know how it is where you live but, I would contact your County Veterans Service Officer they will be able to help you get the records and help with a claim. I have always had a good experience with the DAV National Service Officers. Sorry for your loss. Semper Fi Chris Harry PS The VA also have Service Officers but I have never dealt with them.

        3. Hi Harry, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the info on who to contact on the bad water deal. I live in western Pa., 35 miles outside of Pittsburgh. Thanks again

      2. Hey Sgt. You need to ask your rep about back pay for the bladder cancer. I think you should have been 100% all along and deserve back payments. most everyone that I know was granted 100 from the day that it was classified as a “Presumptive Condition” Just say’n Harry

        1. Hell I have had bladder cancer twice,Ischemic heart disease, now Kidney and ureter cancer from the Bladder cancer and my VFW Rep is saying I might end up with 100%.

        2. Harry I just talked to my rep. The reason I am not getting 100% is because the chemo took care of the bladder cancer both times. If it comes back they will increase it to 100% only while I am going to chemo. As far as the kidney cancer it is being evaluated now. Since my doctor wrote a letter saying the kidney cancer came from the bladder cancer I should get an increase in my disability. Once kidney is removed my doctor has to send information as to what is going on.

  1. Will Rogers was a man of profound common sense who could simplfy even very complex issues. Being a fellow Oklahoman, I have enjoyed the wit and wisdom of Will for many years. My favorite quote is:

“All the wars in the world even if you won ’em, can’t repay one mother for the loss of one son. But even at that when she says to you, ‘That’s my oldest boy’s picture, he was lost in the war,’ there is behind that mist in her eyes, a shine of pride.” – Will Rogers, Dec 17, 1933

If you are every in or near Claremore OK, maybe while traveling old US Route 66, be sure to stop and see the Will Rogers Museum. It would be time well spent. Semper Fi!!!

  2. Will Rogers quote given at the 1927 Republican Convention, “Republicans and Democrats are equally corrupt, but it’s only in the amount where Republicans excel.”
